Responsibilities Tasks
- Plan or modify routes according to changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) or other navigation devices to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions
- Address customer complaints and respond to their concerns
- Professionalism in customer service
- Load and unload merchandise
- Drive trucks or articulated units to transport goods or materials
- Monitor vehicle condition and perform inspection of tires, lights, brakes, refrigerated storage equipment and other equipment
- Adjust brakes
- Perform emergency repairs along the road
- Inspect trucks before, during and after the trip and monitor all aspects of vehicles
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Receive and transmit information to the central dispatcher
- Record information on cargo, hours of service, distances traveled and fuel consumption
- Tarp and ensure cargo safety and security
- Transport and handle dangerous goods
