# Responsibilities Tasks Build bridges or erect scaffolding according to heavy work to be performed Verify products to ensure their compliance regarding their shape, dimensions or other standards Clean and lubricate machines and equipment Bend, cut, mill, punch, drill, weld or shape in some other way metals to manufacture parts or products Document completed work Examine problems to resolve them or perform minor repairs Set up, adjust and operate one or more light or heavy metal shaping machines or equipment Operate gas or oil-heated furnaces to bring metal to the proper forging temperature Operate or run machines or equipment to weld, bolt, screw or rivet metal parts together Operate presses or other hot or cold forging machines to shape or form metal Place parts in the furnace Place, if necessary, and adjust dies on the anvil of forming equipment Place parts, heated or not, on the die of the press or other forming equipment Read and interpret specifications or follow verbal instructions Remove metal parts from the furnace when the color of the metal indicates it has reached the desired temperature Select materials and transport them manually or using a crane or winch to the work site
