Responsibilities Tasks Plan or modify routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) or other navigation devices to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions Organize trips, establish routes and make reservations Be part of a team of two truck drivers or a convoy Drive light trucks for specific purposes Load and unload cargo Obtain special licenses and other documents required to transport cargo on international roads Drive trucks or articulated combinations to transport goods or materials Monitor the condition of vehicles and perform inspections of tires, lights, brakes, refrigerated storage equipment and other equipment Perform emergency repairs along the road Inspect trucks before, during and after the trip and monitor all aspects of vehicles Transport and handle dangerous goods
